On August 23, 2020, the National Police Service undertook a significant reshuffle that saw at least six senior police officers reassigned to new departments.

Director of Police Operations James Mwaniki has been transferred to the planning department, where he will continue to serve in the same capacity. Mwaniki replaced Peter Ndungu, who has taken over as the head of the Kenya Railways police command.

Meanwhile, Titus Ndungu has been appointed as the new head of operations at the Kenya Airports Police Unit in Nairobi.

Other notable changes include the transfer of Nyanza regional police boss Noah Mwivanda to the Eastern region, and the move of Railways Head of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Jane Karanja to the police headquarters.

Geoffrey Kathurima, the Kisii regional head, has replaced Karanja at the DCI. The reshuffle has affected more than 60 junior officers at the DCI, with police stations in Gigiri, Kasarani, and the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road also impacted.

According to sources at police headquarters, the changes are part of normal service operations.
