On Friday, August 21, 2020, a break-in at the vehicle of ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale sent shockwaves in Kinoo, Kiambu County.

Etale, who had visited a friend in the area, returned to find his car's alarm system had not gone off, despite the break-in.

"I had left my laptop, two phones, a wallet, my medical covers, ATM cards, and all of them were stolen. I feel so bad," Etale disclosed.

Etale has since reported the incident to the Kinoo police station, and investigations are underway.

According to section 322 of the penal code, handling stolen goods is a felony punishable by imprisonment with hard labor, with a maximum term of fourteen years.

Etale's case is not an isolated incident, as there has been a surge in reported cases of theft in Nairobi and its environs.

Just two months prior, police officers in Mombasa County arrested nine suspects believed to be part of a gang involved in car break-ins and theft.
