On August 22, 2020, police officers in Nairobi County were left stunned after discovering the lifeless bodies of two children, aged nine and four, inside a rental apartment in Githurai.
According to sources, the children's mother had left them home alone before returning from work, only to find them dead.
"The nine-year-old had told a friend that she and her brother were having a terrible stomach upset," a resident revealed.
After being pronounced dead at St John's Hospital in Githurai, a post-mortem examination revealed that the siblings had died from poisoning.
The children's mother, Caroline Nzilani, contacted her estranged husband, James Mwangi, to inform him of the tragic event and asked him to record a statement at the chief's office.
However, Mwangi instead went to the hospital to confirm the children's deaths.
Police officers have launched an investigation into the cause of the children's deaths, urging the family to remain calm.
"So far, no one has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing," the police stated.
The incident comes just two months after the bodies of two children were found hidden in the boot of a car at Athi River Police Station.
