ODM's Response to KEMSA Scandal Sparks Backlash

On August 20, 2020, Deputy President William Ruto tweeted about the KEMSA scandal, saying 'at least for once it won't be possible to be blamed for what someone said "started in Wuhan as a virus, landed in Italy as a pandemic and now in Kenya as a multi-billion shilling corruption enterprise".'

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna responded to Ruto's statement, saying that the party would not join the condemnation bandwagon but would instead keep probing and defending the right of Kenyans to get government services efficiently and at the right process.

However, many Kenyans have expressed mixed feelings about ODM's response, with some accusing the party of targeting Ruto rather than addressing the actual corruption. Others have criticized ODM for not taking a stronger stance against corruption.

As the scandal continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how ODM will respond and whether the party will take a more decisive stance against corruption.
