On August 22, 2020, the Kenya police headquarters in Nairobi announced a significant reshuffle of senior police officers, affecting at least six high-ranking officials.
James Mwaniki, the former director of police operations, was moved to the Planning department, while Titus Karuri Ndungu, the commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU), took over as the new head of operations.
Other notable changes included the transfer of Nyanza regional police boss Noah Mwivanda to Eastern region, where he replaced Lydia Ligami. Ligami, who was among senior security officials injured in a plane crash in June 2020, was moved to the office of the Inspector General at Jogoo House.
Additionally, Jane Karanja, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Kenya Railways, was reassigned to the police headquarters, where she was replaced by Geoffrey Kathurima from Kisii.
The police headquarters described the changes as 'normal' and aimed at boosting operations in the affected areas.
Separately, more than 60 junior officers were moved in the DCI, with 24 detectives being transferred from various police stations in the city, including Gigiri, Kasarani, and the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road.
