On the frontline of the fight against the coronavirus, healthcare workers in Nairobi have received crucial support from Carrefour, a supermarket chain operated by Majid Al Futtaim in Kenya. The initiative, launched in May 2020, aimed to provide essential resources to healthcare workers at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
KNH has been at the forefront of efforts to combat COVID-19, setting up isolation units and building the capacity of healthcare workers in the counties. To aid their efforts, Carrefour donated household appliances, food items, and other essential resources.
According to Franck Moreau, Country Manager of Carrefour Kenya at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, the donation was a gesture of appreciation for the hard work of healthcare staff. 'Carrefour is committed to contributing to the lives of the people who have come to rely on us as a pillar of their communities,' he said.
Dr. Evanson Kamuri, Kenyatta National Hospital Chief Executive, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, 'This is indeed a great gesture. Two things thrill me about this donation to Kenyatta National Hospital: one is Carrefour's generosity, and the other is the continued faith in our mandate.'
The initiative underlines Carrefour Kenya's commitment to the health and wellbeing of the people and communities it serves. This charitable effort follows a previous campaign launched by Carrefour earlier this year to generate donations of staple food items worth over Ksh 5 million in support of underprivileged families across Nairobi affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
