On August 22, 2020, the Ministry of Trade and Industrialization announced plans to provide entrepreneurship training to thousands of youths under the Kazi Mtaani programme.

The training, which will enable the youths to start small-scale businesses, is set to begin next week, with officials from the ministry to be sent to county level to educate the youths on entrepreneurship.

According to Trade CAS Lawrence Karanja, the ministry has set aside Sh600 million as seed capital, which will be distributed to the youths across the country at an interest of less than 6 percent.

This initiative is a directive from President Uhuru Kenyatta, aimed at empowering young people in economic recovery during the pandemic.

As part of the initiative, the ministry will also construct a Jua Kali artisan centre in Mweiga to equip youths with technical courses and benefit them during this abnormal time.

Area MP Kanini Kega welcomed the move, saying it will empower youths after the Kazi Mtaani initiative is concluded in six months' time.
