Five months have passed since the mysterious death of Administration Police officer Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei, and his father, John Chesang, is still waiting for the truth about his son's killers.
On February 13, Kenei was on duty at the Harambee Annex office of Deputy President William Ruto when former Sports CS Rashid Echesa accessed the office and allegedly issued a fake Sh40 billion military arms contract to two foreigners.
Less than 10 days later, Kenei was found dead in his house, with a single bullet wound on the head.
Police said Kenei went missing on February 19, when he was supposed to accompany his colleagues to the DCI to record a statement on the fake arms probe.
As detectives continue to pursue crucial leads, a team of homicide officers is set to visit Kenei's home to piece together information and unravel the mystery murder.
According to a source, the DCI has made significant progress in the probe, with focus being put on suspects believed to have deleted data from Kenei's phone before they murdered him.
Detectives still believe that Kenei did not commit suicide, and there was something fishy about his death.
They have successfully retrieved the data that had been deleted from the phone and are pursuing three people believed to be masterminds of the murder.
Efforts to reach DCI George Kinoti for a comment on the progress of the investigations bore no fruit.
On March 11, Kinoti asked the FBI to join investigations into the murder of the police officer, citing the need to widen the scope of investigations due to the mysterious death occurring at the height of the Sh40 billion fake arms deal case.
