On Friday, August 21, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the heated Senate debate over the Third Basis Revenue Allocation Formula, which had reached an impasse for the ninth time.

Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC), where he was issuing title deeds to Nairobi residents, President Kenyatta dismissed claims that he had a hand in the stand-off.

"The money being debated is not mine and this formula was proposed by SRC, indicating that money should be sub-divided equally," the President stated.

He questioned the logic of some Senators who claimed that residents of Nairobi were rich, pointing out that residents from Embakasi and Korogocho, who did not have access to basic amenities like toilets, would not share the same views.

"The truth shall stand," the President declared, emphasizing that he would not engage in political utterances but rather focus on working for the Kenyan citizens.

He called on leaders to unite and work together for the greater good of Kenyan citizens, noting that God would decide on who would take over leadership come 2022.

The President's remarks came after the house failed to resolve the impasse over the formula, leading to the formation of a 12-member committee from both parties on Monday, August 17, to find consensus.
