Published on August 20, 2020, a troubled period for Tuskys Supermarket has seen another branch locked down by auctioneers.

The Kisumu branch, located at the United Mall on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway, was shut down on a Thursday after auctioneers from Victoria Blue Services descended on the retail chain, locking all three entrances.

The action was reportedly taken on behalf of the landlord who demanded Ksh.26 million in rent arrears. Sources indicate that Tuskys Supermarket had been owing the landlord accrued rent of Ksh.32 million but had only settled Ksh.6 million.

A notice seen by Radio Ramogi revealed that the auctioneer had attached the property worth the equivalent of the owed arrears. The property is set to be auctioned in the next eight days if the Tuskys management fails to settle the debt.

On the same day, the auctioneers also towed a lorry canter belonging to Tuskys supermarket. The supermarket had leased out several spaces within the building to individual businesses, including chemists, which have been shut down as they were reportedly paying rent directly to the management.

When approached for comment, Mr. Wilson Kanyi, the supermarket's United Mall branch manager, declined to comment and referred journalists to the Nairobi office.
