Laikipia County Secretary Karanja Njora has been sworn in, but his tenure is already marred by resistance from some quarters.

On August 20, 2020, Njora was sworn in as the new county secretary, a position he had been nominated for by Governor Ndiritu Muriithi.

However, the nomination was not without controversy, with some members of the county assembly expressing discontent with the decision.

According to sources, Governor Muriithi had pushed for Njora's nomination despite opposition from some quarters, and even witnessed the swearing-in ceremony at his Nanyuki office.

Deputy Governor John Mwaniki, who is against Njora's elevation, has urged the newly sworn-in county secretary to decentralize service delivery, fight corruption, and strengthen communication between the government and the people.

It is worth noting that Njora has been serving in an acting capacity since a motion for his consideration was tabled for debate on the floor of the House on July 25, 2018.
