NSE Turnover Rises to KSh 386.66 Million

On August 19, 2020, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) witnessed a surge in equity turnover, reaching KSh 386.66 million. This milestone was achieved through 704 deals, with a total of 15.94 million shares being traded.

Compared to the previous trading day, when the turnover stood at KSh 347.3 million, this represents a notable increase. The number of shares traded on the previous day was 17.44 million, with 943 deals being concluded.

The NSE 20 Share index experienced a 2.88-point rise, reaching 1734.34. The NSE 25 Share index also saw a significant increase, rising to 2991.56, a 19.99-point gain from the previous 2971.57.

The NSE All-Share index rose to 130.85, a 0.34-point increase from the previous 130.51.

Nairobi Business Ventures emerged as the top gainer, with its share price rising by 10% to KSh 0.66. Liberty Kenya Holdings, Uchumi, and East African Cables also experienced significant price increases, with East African Cables' share price rising to KSh 1.79, a 5.29% gain.

On the other hand, Williamson Tea was the biggest loser, with its share price falling 8.16% to KSh 132.25. Other notable losers included Sameer Africa, Flame Tree Group, Housing Finance, and Umeme, which experienced declines of 7.14%, 6.02%, 6%, and 5.33%, respectively.

KCB was the most active stock, with 6.94 million shares being traded, followed by Safaricom, NSE, Equity, and KenGen, which traded 3.10 million, 1.60 million, 1.19 million, and 1.06 million shares, respectively.

During the trading session, no contracts were concluded at the derivatives market. The secondary bond market also experienced a decline, with bonds worth KSh 451.73 million being transacted in 78 deals, compared to KSh 914.0 million achieved in 67 deals the previous day.
