Published on August 19, 2020, a report by the National Assembly Committee on Labour and Social Services highlighted the struggles of Kazi Mtaani project beneficiaries due to outstanding Fuliza loans.

Beneficiaries, who receive a weekly stipend of Sh1,000 through M-Pesa, have been unable to access their pay due to discrepancies in their details, including name, ID, and phone numbers.

Some beneficiaries have resorted to using IDs belonging to other family members, resulting in pay delays. The project, located in 23 informal settlements, aims to improve urban infrastructure and services.

Protests over pay have been reported in Murang'a, Isiolo, and Mvita, with Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga assuring the youth that county implementation committees will capture their details for verification.

Mr Hinga noted that payments for workers under the Kazi Mtaani programme are made via mobile money, and errors in details may have resulted in payments not going through.
