Published on August 18, 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded in Rachuonyo East sub-county where a 26-year-old woman buried her 1-day-old baby alive.

The woman's husband, who works in Kisumu, had not been home for over a year and had reportedly warned her of dire consequences after learning she was pregnant out of wedlock.

According to neighbors, the couple's quarrel started when the husband rang his wife to inform her of the pregnancy, claiming he had left home almost two years ago and had not been intimate with her at the time.

On Monday evening, the woman delivered the baby and allegedly strangled it with a cloth.

Her brother-in-law became suspicious and informed their grandmother, who eventually coaxed the woman into revealing the truth.

The baby was exhumed and reburied, but the woman escaped with her three children to their maternal home in Kochol.

After realizing she was being traced by local administration, the woman abandoned her children and fled.

Kokwanyo East Sub location Assistant Chief Don Odero confirmed the incident, stating that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the young woman, who remains at large.
