On a dramatic Monday evening at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Cape Town City threw a spanner in the works with a 3-2 home victory against title-chasing Mamelodi Sundowns.
With this loss, Sundowns' hopes of retaining the ABSA Premiership trophy are slowly slipping away, as they remain six points behind Kaizer Chiefs after 24 games.
Coach Pitso Mosimane acknowledged the team's struggles, stating, 'We were always fighting to equalise which we did not, we struggled a little bit, we always believed we will come back and they took their chances very well. We tried to score and we pinned them but they resisted.'
Despite drawing two and losing one in their last four games, Sundowns will look to bounce back in their clash against Maritzburg United on Friday at 18:00 CAT (19:00 EAT).
Surprise Ralani scored the first goal for Cape Town City, followed by Kermit Erasmus' second goal. However, an own goal by Dove Edmilson brought Sundowns back into the game. The second half saw both sides throwing everything, with Ralani scoring again and Keletso Makgalwa reducing the deficit in the 90th minute.
With this loss, Sundowns have some catching up to do in the ABSA Premiership.
