On August 16, 2020, Irene Kendi, a vocal former SONU Vice Chair and now attached to Gender and Youth CS, sparked controversy with her scathing attack on the youth for blaming the government for their poverty and unemployment.
Through a Facebook post, Kendi compared the youth of Kenya to their counterparts in Uganda who have embraced art and other innovative means to make a living.
She claimed that the youth of Kenya have always complained to the government about being broke and unemployed while in fact, the government is doing so much to ensure that the youth are exposed to opportunities and are empowered through all sectors.
However, Kenyans online quickly pointed out the irony of her opinion and the privileged position she was speaking from.
Many condemned Ms Kendi for her repetitive reckless remarks and wondered how she ended up at the ministry that should be helping the youth find a soft landing with her backward thinking.
