Kenya's Covid-19 Cases Near 30,000 as 515 More Test Positive

Kenya is on the cusp of reaching 30,000 Covid-19 cases, with 515 new infections reported on August 15, 2020, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 29,849, as per the Health ministry's report.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi announced the new cases during a daily media briefing at Afya House in Nairobi, stating that 6,353 samples had been tested in 24 hours, with a cumulative number of 387,670 as of August 15, 2020.

Dr. Mwangangi also reported 672 more recoveries from the virus and seven additional deaths, raising the recovery count to 15,970 and the death toll to 472, respectively.

Of the recovered patients, 607 were treated at home, while 65 were in health facilities. The new cases comprised 496 Kenyans and 19 foreigners, with the youngest patient being eight months old and the oldest 92 years old.

In terms of case distribution, Nairobi led with 251 new infections, followed by Kitui with 41, Kiambu with 33, and Kericho with 23.
