On July 25, 2020, a tragic incident unfolded in Garissa, Kenya, where two civilians lost their lives during a demonstration at the Garissa livestock Market.
According to the prosecution, Adan Ibrahahim Salat and Abdirahman Roble Samow, two police officers based in Garissa, jointly murdered Aden Abdi Madhobe and Mudhidin Aden Mudhow in the Soko Ngombe Area of Garissa Township.
The two officers appeared virtually before Justice Jessie Lessit at the Nairobi High Court, where they denied the charges of murder.
Following an investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Rapid Investigations Team was dispatched to Garissa county to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal shootings.
Former leader of the majority in the Parliament and Garissa Township Member of Parliament, Aden Duale, condemned the incident, calling for immediate action.
The two officers will remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of their bail application, which is set for September 3, 2020.
