On August 8, 2020, the Kenya Gazette published numerous parastatal appointments, including Pauline Njoroge's appointment to the Tourism Regulatory Authority board. However, her tenure was short-lived.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala revoked her appointment with immediate effect, citing her past remarks about the Nairobi National Park.
According to CS Balala, the ministry had just learned of her comments and could not associate itself with her. He expressed regret that the ministry did not know about Ms Njoroge's views during her background check.
Ms Njoroge, a Digital Media Strategist and Communication Officer at the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat, had questioned the sense in sustaining the park given that Nairobi is congested.
Her comments resurfaced on social media, prompting the ministry to take action. CS Balala thanked members of the public who highlighted the issue on social media.
Ms Njoroge's appointment was replaced with Standard Group journalist Najma Ismail.
Reactions to the revocation of Ms Njoroge's appointment were mixed, with some opposing the decision and others supporting it.
