Residents of western Kenya's sugar belt can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the government has approved plans to rehabilitate the dilapidated Kisumu-Chemelil-Muhoroni road.
The 63-kilometre road, which has been in a dilapidated state for over 20 years, runs through Chemelil, Miwani, and Kibos before joining the Kisumu-Kakamega road at the Mamboleo junction.
According to a press statement by Treasury and Planning Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, the Mamboleo-Kisumu road is one of four major new road projects approved for implementation in the 2020/2021 financial year.
