On August 8, 2020, Acting Health Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth emphasized the effectiveness of home-based care in treating COVID-19 asymptomatic cases during a visit to Kakamega County.

According to Dr. Amoth, home-based care has proven to be a catalyst for quick recovery, with the home environment playing a significant role in the treatment process.

He noted that the country has made significant progress in dealing with COVID-19, from sending the first samples to South Africa to establishing 33 testing laboratories across the country.

However, Dr. Amoth highlighted that access to reagents remains a major challenge in approving more testing labs, with Kenya ranking among the top countries in Africa in terms of per capita testing, with six tests per 100 populations.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe stated that the Ministry of Health is engaging with communities to ensure that initiation ceremonies, including circumcision, are conducted in accordance with Ministry guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa emphasized the importance of investing in healthcare, as it is one of the devolved functions, and urged county governments to prioritize healthcare.
