On September 1, 2020, the contractor working on the Dandora Stadium project left the site, citing allegations of using sub-standard materials in construction. The project, which was 80% complete at the time, has since stalled.

The stadium, a 3,000-seater facility, was touted as Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko's main contribution to sports in the County. However, the project's legacy is now under threat due to the ongoing corruption probe.

Dandora Stadium manager Godfrey Okoti has urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to expedite the release of a report on the alleged corruption. Okoti stated that the completion of the project will resume once the report is released.

The EACC officials had flagged the contractor for allegedly using sub-standard materials in construction, prompting the contractor to abandon the site.

As of August 8, 2020, the stadium management is calling for government intervention to ensure the completion of the project.
