On August 8, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed satisfaction with measures taken by stakeholders in the hospitality sector to protect tourists from COVID-19.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a virtual meeting with elite Kenyan marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, the President encouraged local and foreign travelers to visit the country's famous tourist sites, citing low rates as a major draw.

'I want to take this opportunity to encourage every single Kenyan to take advantage and to travel... You can travel, you can move,' the President said.

Mr. Kipchoge, Kenya's new goodwill ambassador for tourism, is currently in the Masai Mara Game Reserve with his family to witness the annual wildebeest migration.

The President urged Kenyans and visitors to continue observing COVID-19 containment protocols, emphasizing that safety is an individual choice.

He thanked Mr. Kipchoge for representing Kenya as a 'Magical Kenya' brand ambassador, calling it an act of patriotism.

Mr. Kipchoge assured the President that he will do his best to promote the country as a top travel destination.
