August 8, 2020 - The COVID-19 pandemic has left a lasting impact on Kenya's tourism sector, but President Uhuru Kenyatta is confident that it is now on the road to recovery.

Speaking from the Maasai Mara, where he was joined by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai, and marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, President Kenyatta emphasized the importance of the tourism sector in revitalizing the country's economy.

'All those who have always longed for an opportunity to travel, this is your opportunity,' he said, urging Kenyans to take advantage of the open skies and explore the country's natural beauty.

President Kenyatta also revealed that his decision not to impose a second lockdown was aimed at revitalizing the economy, particularly the tourism sector, and assured international tourists that their safety is guaranteed.

'And now that we have opened up our skies and flights are coming, we welcome all those who choose to come and all those who choose to obey the protocols that we have put in place to come and partake with us and enjoy the beauty of this wonderful land,' he said.

Mr. Balala noted that the Tourism Ministry has set up necessary measures to ensure the safety of Kenyans and international tourists during this period.

Narok Governor Tunai, who hosted the Ministry of Tourism delegation, said that his administration has factored in all the measures to ensure that tourism in the region goes on smoothly, including testing all staff before reopening hotels and facilities.

Mr. Kipchoge, who was named as Kenya's destination ambassador, encouraged Kenyans to promote the industry by traveling and reminded them that 'no human is limited'.
