On August 7, 2020, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Leonard Kamanga Kamau, a 21-year-old suspect, in Buruburu, Nairobi, after he resurfaced from his Mombasa hideout.
According to the DCI, Kamau had allegedly stabbed 25-year-old Tabitha Wanjiku, a house help, to death in Umoja estate earlier in the year.
Neighbours reported that Wanjiku was found dead, lying in a pool of her own blood, with her throat slit using a kitchen knife.
‘The victim was found by fellow tenants lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit with a kitchen knife, a day after the two kids she was tending (to) were picked by their guardian and was granted some off-duty,' said the DCI in a statement.
After the incident, detectives and forensic experts pursued Kamau to Mombasa, but he managed to evade them.
He was eventually arrested in Nairobi on August 7, 2020, following an early morning operation by the detectives.
