On August 8, 2020, news broke that Digital Strategist Pauline Njoroge's appointment to the Tourism Board had caused a stir online due to her past sentiments about Nairobi National Park.
Njoroge's views, which included a Facebook post questioning the use of the park's revenue, sparked outrage among Kenyans on Twitter.
Conservationists have long protested any move to develop the park, which was established in 1946 and is home to over 550 species of birds, attracting approximately 150,000 visitors a year.
The park is the only protected part of the Athi-Kapiti ecosystem, making up less than 10% of this ecosystem.
According to reports, Njoroge's appointment will be revoked following her comments, which have been met with widespread criticism.
"How much revenue does Nairobi National Park bring to this country? Isn't there much much more that can be done with it that will add more value?" Njoroge had posted on her Facebook page.
