Kenya has recorded 699 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 25,837, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced the new cases during a daily Covid-19 briefing in Kakamega County on Saturday, August 8, 2020.
Of the new cases, 427 are male and 272 are female, with the youngest case being a 1-year-old baby and the oldest being 85 years old.
At the same time, 781 patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 11,899. 125 patients were released from hospital, while 656 are on home-based care.
Regrettably, five patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 418.
CS Kagwe commended Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya for the measures taken to improve health services, including setting up the Mumias Level 4 Hospital as a Covid-19 treatment centre.
"We have been accused of talking to Kenyans as if they are retarded; tumetukanwa (we have been insulted). Kenyans do not have to die, this is a condition we can control. We can manage ourselves," he stated.
CS Kagwe shared a scenario where a family got infected because of not taking precautions laid out to contain the spread of the virus.
