On August 8, 2020, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala revoked the appointment of Pauline Njoroge as a member of the Board of Tourism Regulatory Authority.

The decision came after Kenyans on social media raised concerns over Njoroge's previous post on the Nairobi National Park, where she stated that the park's only selling point was its location in a capital city.

Responding to calls to reroute the Standard Gauge Railway to save the park, Njoroge described the park as 'economically redundant.'

Speaking on the sidelines of the official launch of domestic tourism campaign at the Masai Mara, Balala expressed gratitude to the public for bringing Njoroge's remarks to his attention, stating that the appointment had painted the ministry in a bad light.
