Published on August 8, 2020, traders in Kakamega County are reeling from the loss of their stalls after they were demolished by the county government ahead of a visit by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
The demolition, which was allegedly aimed at cleaning the environment outside Kakamega County Referral Hospital, has left the traders shocked and counting losses.
According to the traders, they were not given a demolition notice, and the action is seen as hypocritical given that they have been operating on the premises for years.
The traders, who have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, accused the county government of subjecting them to more devastation during a time when they need support.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe is expected to visit the Kakamega County referral hospital to inspect its level of preparedness in dealing with COVID-19.
