On Saturday morning, Gor Mahia held its elections at the Parklands Sports club, with outgoing treasurer Sally Bolo facing off against veteran official Francis Wasuna for the vice-chairperson post.
Wasuna emerged victorious, garnering 226 votes out of a possible 389, while Bolo managed 163.
However, the exercise was marred by controversy when Bolo stormed the tallying centre, claiming that the election was not fair. She was subsequently thrown out of the hall.
Electoral board Chairman Henry Ogoye announced the results, stating that the exercise was a success and was witnessed by representatives from Football Kenya Federation, Kenyan Premier League, and the Registrar of Sports.
"We will now do a report of the election to the club and the Registrar of Sports then we shall have accomplished our mandate," Ogoye said.
Despite the controversy, the new officials were sworn in, with Ambrose Rachier as chairman, Francis Wasuna as vice-chairperson, Sam Ochola as secretary general, and Dolphina Odhiambo as honorary treasurer.
However, Dr Chrispine Okoth, who lost the treasurer post to Odhiambo, has vowed to challenge the outcome of the elections in court, alleging that the system was rigged against him.
"Our opponents were favoured and our IT experts were harassed. The system was set in such a way that our opponents had more votes than us even before the exercise began. I will be heading to court to challenge the outcome of the elections," Okoth said.
