Jalang'o's Brand Takes a Hit as 30 Hand Sanitizer Brands Are Banned

On August 7, 2020, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) made a significant move to protect consumers by banning 30 substandard hand sanitizer brands.

Among the affected brands is Velvex, the hand sanitizer endorsed by popular media personality Jalang'o. Velvex is a product of Chandaria Industries.

KEBS suspended the production and sale of these hand sanitizers following factory inspections, product certifications, and market surveillance activities conducted recently.

According to KEBS, the banned hand sanitizers failed to meet the requirements of the Kenya Standard specification for Instant Hand Sanitizers (KS EAS 789).

KEBS urged Kenyans to verify the authenticity of hand sanitizers by sending the code underneath the Standardisation mark logo to 20023.
