Published on August 8, 2020, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections are in jeopardy as two aspirants, Tom Alila and Lodvic Aduda, have threatened to sue the federation's electoral board over the planned elections.
The dispute arises from the electoral board's announcement that it will publish election regulations and a road map next week, despite the aspirants claiming that the board lacks authority to conduct the elections.
According to Aduda, Fifa had written to the federation on April 6, indicating that it would send a team to meet with football stakeholders in the country to discuss the election road map. However, the aspirants claim that the board has not provided any evidence of this communication.
Alila stated that Fifa's communication in April was a culmination of nullified FKF elections by the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT), and whose verdict has not been challenged. He added that the elections board has no authority to conduct another election, since they are yet to implement the SDT ruling.
The two aspirants have vowed to head back to the tribunal to sue the board for contempt and seek to stop the election if the board proceeds with the plan to hold the elections.
