On a day that will be etched in the memories of many, including a young Sophie, Justice Sonia Sotomayor shared her inspiring life lessons with a group of children. Published on August 8, 2020, her words of wisdom have resonated with many, especially young girls who aspire to greatness.

When asked about her nomination to the Supreme Court, Justice Sotomayor revealed her initial fears and doubts. However, it was a conversation with a friend that changed her perspective, reminding her that her role was not just about her, but about the impact she could have on others, particularly young girls like Sophie.

As the adults looked on, Sophie approached Justice Sotomayor to ask if she, a Latina, could one day be president of the United States. Justice Sotomayor's response was a resounding 'yes,' and she went on to share four valuable life lessons with the young girl.

First, Justice Sotomayor emphasized the importance of dreaming big. 'A girl like you should always dream big,' she said. Second, she encouraged Sophie to never let anyone say she can't do something. 'You are telling me I can't do it? Well, I'll show you I can,' Justice Sotomayor advised. Third, she stressed the need for education, stating, 'You have to study, study and study. That's the only way you can achieve what you want in life.' Finally, she reminded Sophie that hard work is essential, saying, 'In life no one will give you anything for free. You must earn every single thing in this life.'

As the two said their goodbyes, Justice Sotomayor expressed her hope to be alive when Sophie becomes president and even wished to be the one to administer the oath of office to her.
