On Friday, a somber mid-morning ceremony took place in Nyang'iela village, Rachuonyo sub-county, Homa Bay, as Nurse Marian Awuor Adumbo was laid to rest.

Published on August 8, 2020, the news of her passing has left a trail of grief among her friends, family, and colleagues.

Adumbo, a nurse stationed at the Rachuonyo sub-county hospital, had been admitted at the Homa Bay County Hospital with flu-like symptoms in pregnancy, where she tested positive for the coronavirus.

Despite initial positive test results, the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK) reported that the final test results returned negative for COVID-19 on the Thursday before her passing.

Tragically, Awuor's condition worsened on Sunday at 4pm, and she succumbed to COVID-19 complications, leaving behind a week-old baby boy.

Friends and colleagues described the deceased as a warrior and a hero who gave her life in service of her country.
