On Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a surprise move, transferring key corporations under the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry to the National Treasury.

According to a statement from State House, the move was made in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Task force on Parastatal Reforms.

As part of the restructuring, the President appointed several board members, a function that is usually performed by Cabinet secretaries.

Notably, pro-Handshake individuals, including Building Bridges Initiative social media mouthpiece Pauline Njoroge, were awarded key positions.

Ms Njoroge is now a board member of the Tourism Regulatory Authority, while Mr John Ngumi has been appointed as the chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC) Board of Directors.

The ICDC will act as a holding company to the agencies, responsible for the management of government investments in ports, rail, and pipeline services.

Politicians, including former Education assistant minister Kilemi Mwiria and former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex ole Magelo, have also benefited from the new appointments.

However, the appointments of several individuals, including former Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi, were revoked.
