At the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Mercedes continued to assert its dominance, with Lewis Hamilton leading the charge in the second free practice session at Silverstone on August 7, 2020.

Hamilton bounced back from a second-place finish in the morning session to claim the top spot, outpacing his teammate Valtteri Bottas in the scorching heat and temperatures of 36 Celsius.

Hamilton's blistering pace was enough to leave Daniel Ricciardo in third place for Renault, a full eight-tenths of a second behind the Mercedes driver's best lap of 1:25.606 seconds.

The session was cut short due to an engine failure in Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari and a subsequent red flag, which prevented the session from being restarted.

Max Verstappen finished fourth for Red Bull, ahead of the Racing Point duo of Lance Stroll and Nico Hulkenberg, who impressed in the 'pink Mercedes' after Sergio Perez's absence due to a positive COVID-19 test.
