Published on August 7, 2020, an Air India Express flight carrying 189 passengers skidded off a wet runway in southern India's Kerala state, resulting in a devastating crash that left many injured and two dead.
The flight, which originated from Dubai, was attempting to land at Kozhikode Airport when it veered off the runway and split in half. The incident occurred on a rainy night, with heavy downpours in the region for the past week.
Rescue crews were quick to respond, dousing the plane with water as they worked to evacuate the passengers. According to reports, all passengers were safely evacuated by 9:15 p.m., with two fatalities confirmed.
Former Member of Parliament M.B. Rajesh praised the rescue efforts, stating, "There was not much loss of life." He added, "Considering the severity of the accident, the loss of life was limited. That is a relief."
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with air travel, particularly in adverse weather conditions. In 2010, a similar Air India flight crashed in southern India, resulting in the loss of 158 lives.
