On August 7, 2020, Kenya's Ministry of Health reported 727 new COVID-19 cases from 6,814 samples tested within 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 25,138 since March.
Of the new cases, 16 were foreigners and 711 were Kenyans. The cases included a disproportionate number of men, with 539 cases reported among males compared to 188 among females.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe noted the trend and urged men to take the measures to contain the spread of the virus seriously. 'We must honestly ask ourselves as men what is going on and we must address it, in terms of care, in terms of using masks and social distancing women are being much careful,' Kagwe said.
Nairobi accounted for the majority of cases at 393. The health ministry also reported that 674 patients had recovered from the disease, including 549 discharged from health facilities.
With the newly reported recoveries, the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 since April rose to 11,118. The country also reported 14 coronavirus-related deaths, raising the death toll to 413.
