On a visit to Nairobi as a child, the author was struck by the city's tall buildings, cars, and people. However, it was the simple things that left a lasting impression, such as the first time she took a bath in a house with warm running water.
The author's love affair with Imperial Leather soap began at this young age, and she has remained a loyal customer ever since. Recently, she discovered that PZ Cussons, the company behind Imperial Leather, is a socially conscious organization that has partnered with the Rotary Club to launch the Caring for Kenya initiative.
This initiative aims to improve water and sanitation facilities in less privileged communities, reducing the spread of waterborne diseases. In Kenya, water and sanitation diseases are the leading cause of death for children under the age of five, and about 9.4 million Kenyans drink from contaminated water sources.
For every Imperial Leather soap bought, PZ Cussons will donate Sh10 to the initiative. The soaps whose revenue will go towards the initiative will be indicated on the packaging. The campaign is set to kick off in Baba Dogo area in Nairobi before spreading to other low-income areas.
The author is excited to be a part of this initiative and encourages others to do the same. As Mother Theresa once said, 'I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.'
