On August 6, 2020, the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) acting Chairperson John Burugu confirmed that Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Nairobi Metropolitan Services General Mohamed Badi would meet to discuss their dispute, which has hindered service delivery in Nairobi.
The meeting, facilitated by mediators including the Attorney General, IGRTC, Council of Governors, a team from NMS, and the Nairobi City County Government team, aims to resolve the long-standing feud between the two.
The dispute, which has seen both parties engage in a war of words, has also led to a fight for projects, control of the Nairobi County Assembly, and the city.
On August 6, 2020, IGRTC acting Chairperson John Burugu affirmed that the two would sit down to discuss the issue which is affecting the delivery of services in Nairobi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had summoned General Badi a day earlier to explain the ongoing tussle, while Sonko turned to Raila Odinga, Orange Democratic Movement leader, for help.
Sonko also asked Chief Justice David Maraga and the Senate to intervene in the crisis, stating that he wanted to withdraw the transfer of deeds which saw him hand over key duties to the National Government in February 2020.
