On August 7, 2020, a massive fire swept through Nairobi's Marikiti Market in the Central Business District, destroying the stalls of local traders.

The traders, who claim to have been victims of a land ownership dispute with the Kenya Railways, are now left to pick up the pieces.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire completely destroyed stores used by the traders to house their trading materials, including sacks.

Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua, alias Jaguar, has termed the fire as arson and called for swift action, stating, 'I've heard your cries, and I'll voice your concerns in Parliament. We will get answers. We will hold these arsonists accountable. Kenya Railways, a state corporation, cannot commit such injustices without repercussions.'
