It's been a year since gospel music icon Esther Wahome lost her dad, Evangelist William Wahome Gikonyo, and the pain still feels unbearable. In a heartfelt tribute, Esther shared her memories of her late father, who was more than just a parent to her.
On the one-year anniversary of his passing, Esther penned a moving tribute to her dad, compiling a collage of photos and creating a video with Kambua's hit 'Tutaonana' as the soundtrack. She shared the video on her social media, accompanied by a poignant message.
Esther wrote, 'I'm grateful to have spoken to you in your last minute, to have been there holding you, and to have had you pass on a mantle to me, before you crossed over.'
She continued, 'You taught me the word, you taught me to be a prayer warrior, you made me understand my kingdom mandate, you taught me music, you taught me how to proclaim and possess all that is my portion, you taught me how to pull down strongholds, you taught me how to take charge! You taught me resilience, You taught me kingdom mysteries, You raised a kingdom giant in me!!!'
Esther reminisced about the difficult moments she faced without her dad, including her music tour in Europe and her doctorate graduation ceremony. She shared, 'Things can never be the same without him and I will never get over my dad but I have received grace from God to live without him, and so it is not as painful as it was then… I am not healed at all but I am progressing well.'
Esther also shared a personal message on Instagram, where she expressed her gratitude for her dad's love and guidance. She wrote, 'It was so difficult compiling photos of him and me during his last days as he was ailing and physically weak, but his voice remained clear as he kept assuring me of God’s greatness and love.'
She concluded, 'Generals don’t die…they only rest, but I miss my dad so much. continue singing with angels, great pianist, great Evangelist, great dad. in loving memory of Baba Esther Wahome.'
