August 7, 1998, is a day etched in the memories of Kenyans as one of the darkest moments in the country's history. It was the day a bomb blast at the US Embassy in Nairobi claimed the lives of over 200 people and left nearly 5,000 injured.

Today, 22 years later, Kenya remembers the victims and survivors of the Al Qaeda-linked attack. The US Embassy in Nairobi has paid tribute to those who lost their lives, saying they mourn those who were killed and stand with all who were injured or affected by the brutal attack.

The terrorists behind the attack also targeted the American embassy in Dar es Salam in neighboring Tanzania. The simultaneous attack was a stark reminder of the global reach of terrorism.

On Twitter, Kenyans have been sharing their thoughts and memories of the fateful day. @CKirubi tweeted, 'Today marks 22 years since the August 7th tragedy at the US Embassy in Nairobi.' @venessachiri254 wrote, 'What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. We shall rise from the dust of the ashes. We never relent and can never.'

The August 7th Memorial Park stands on the grounds of the former US Embassy, a poignant reminder of the tragic events of 1998. The park serves as a tribute to the victims and a symbol of Kenya's resilience in the face of terrorism.
