On August 6, 2020, Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara made a triumphant return to the airwaves after a brief absence following spinal surgery, and she wasted no time in taking aim at Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko.

During a segment on Citizen TV's News Gang, Okwara expressed her incredulity at Sonko's claim that he was served alcohol at State House before signing the deed of transfer agreement, stating that it was a mockery of the democratic process and a slap in the face to Nairobi residents.

Okwara questioned the circumstances surrounding Sonko's alleged consumption of alcohol, asking if he had been coerced or if he had simply had no say in the matter.

She posed a series of pointed questions, including whether Sonko had been 'force-fed' the alcohol like a mother does to a stubborn toddler, and whether he had any control over the situation.

Okwara's scathing critique of Sonko's actions was clear: in any civilized society, he should have resigned from office immediately after making such a claim.
