Published on August 7, 2020, a report by Citizen TV claimed that youths recruited for the Kazi Mtaani programme in Uasin Gichu County were paid only Sh90 instead of the stipulated Sh450.

However, Principal Secretary Charles Hinga has refuted the reports, terming them as 'inaccurate reporting' by Citizen TV.

PS Hinga clarified that the first cohort worked for five days in the first week and was duly paid. He stated that the youths worked for 2-3 days in week 1 and were paid Sh910 and Sh1365, respectively.

PS Hinga further faulted Citizen TV for propagating mischief, stating that they know bad news travels fast and by the time they rectify the damage, it would already be done.

ODM Communications Director Phillip Etale had raised concerns about the reports, questioning why the youths were paid Sh90 instead of the promised Sh400.
