The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a partial closure of a section of the Thika Superhighway, effective from Saturday, August 8 to Sunday, August 9, 2020.

The closure is necessary to allow for the installation of a footbridge truss at the Outering Road - Thika Superhighway overpass near the GSU headquarters.

Motorists are advised to use the KCAs University underpass to join the Thika Superhighway during the closure period.

According to a notice issued by KURA on Friday, August 7, 2020, the closure will commence from 6 a.m to 6 p.m on both days.

Drivers are advised to take precaution while approaching the area and follow the respective signs provided.

"We apologise for the inconvenience that may be caused as we endeavour to provide an efficient urban road network," said Director General Silas Kinoti.

The partial closure is part of ongoing efforts to reduce congestion in Nairobi County, which includes the construction of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along the Thika Superhighway.

The BRT system, which is expected to commence in August 2020, will feature special lanes for high-capacity buses, boarding stations, and footbridges.

Over 100 buses are targeted to use the special lanes, which will run from the Thika Superhighway through the Central Business District to Kenyatta National Hospital.
