Published on August 7, 2020, a time when the country was grappling with the rise in coronavirus cases, Deputy President William Ruto's Karen residence became a hotspot for COVID-19 community transmission.
Delegations from all over the country, including women, children, and old people, visited Ruto's home, disregarding social distancing and government directives. The gatherings were characterized by a lack of observance of COVID-19 protocols, with attendees only donning masks.
However, the chickens have come home to roost, as some of the delegates have tested positive for COVID-19. One of the delegates, Muteti Murimi, has come forward to declare that he tested positive for the virus close to a week after meeting with Deputy President Ruto at his Karen home.
With the numerous delegations hosted by Ruto, there has been little attention paid to the Ministry of Health directives. His Karen residence has become a breeding ground for community transmission of the virus through the exchange of greetings and meetings.
