On August 7, 2020, the government announced that the refurbished Nairobi-Nanyuki railway line would lead to cheaper and safer fuel transportation. The railway line, which has been refurbished using Sh1.8 billion from Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), is a faster and safer way to transport fuel compared to road transport.
According to Petroleum Principal Secretary Andrew Kamau, the project was executed within a few months with funds that came from KPC's remittances to the Treasury in special dividends.
