Published on August 6, 2020, the London Marathon has announced that it will proceed with the event on October 4, featuring elite athletes competing in a bio-secure environment.

The initial April 26 date was shelved due to the pandemic, but organizers have devised a plan to ensure a safe and secure competition.

Elite races for men, women, and wheelchair athletes will take place on an enclosed looped course in St James's Park, with times eligible for Olympic qualification.

Women's world record holder Brigid Kosgei will headline the women's field, and the event will be broadcast by BBC Sport with eight hours of coverage.

However, mass participation events have been postponed until 2021, with a virtual race scheduled for October 4 instead.

Participants will have 24 hours to complete the 26.2 miles, logging their progress on a new London Marathon app developed by TCS.
