Kenya's COVID-19 death toll has reached a grim milestone, with 399 fatalities reported as of August 6, 2020. This comes after eight new deaths were recorded within a 24-hour period, marking a 1.6 per cent case fatality rate.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman, the fatalities include six comorbidity-linked deaths, highlighting the need for continued vigilance in managing the disease.

On a more positive note, Aman reported that 514 patients had recovered from the disease, with 431 of them placed under the home-based care program. This brings the total recoveries since April to 10,444.

The Ministry of Health also reported 538 new COVID-19 cases from 6,195 tested samples, raising the total infections reported since March to 24,411. The cases included 22 foreigners, with the youngest patient being 2 years old and the oldest 85 years old.

The reported cases were spread across various counties, with Nairobi recording the highest number of cases at 277, followed by Kiambu with 72 cases. The cumulative tests conducted in the country stood at 335,318.
